More bad news for Prince Andrew as his portrait no longer swings outside the Duke of York pub in Fitzrovia. Ten years ago the landlords of the 18th-century building asked the prince if they could use his image, saying that he would be a “pull for tourists”. An unfortunate choice of words in hindsight but, despite his problems, the image of Air Miles Andy was retained even after his mother stripped him of his titles.

Now, with a change of owner, the portrait has gone, though it remains on a corner panel, leading The Londonist website to report that “the Grand Old Duke of York is both up and down”. With Harry and Meghan’s image having been removed from the Duke of Sussex in Waterloo
