I visited Porthmadog on Thursday. Google maps told me that the maritime museum would be open. However, when I got there, the sign said that it is only open during the summer.
I took a walk around Lombard Street and Garth Road and got some nice views of the harbour. The hill at Moel y Gest looked like a nice little walk but I didn’t have time to go up there. I got some fish & chips at The Creel and I went and had a couple of pints in The Australia whilst I waited for my train.
I thought that the town was quite English speaking compared to a lot of the other places in the area that I had visited. There seemed to be quite a few brummies.
There was a bench with a plaque on that it said that you could scan to learn about the history of the harbour. However, this didn’t work and when I spoke to their support team, it said that the project had been discontinued.
I was a little disappointed, as Porthmadog seemed like a beautiful place. I am sure that they could have done more to share their local history and to encourage people to visit.
The highlight really was getting a pint of Purple Moose for £3.50 instead of £4.50 because the landlord under-charged me. However, my plan wasn’t really to sit in the pub and drink beer. I left feeling a little bit disappointed.

  1. Leave the dog alone, you shouldn’t be porthing it.

  2. You missed the steam engine travelling down the middle of the road

  3. I’ve spent many, many hours on that harbour wall catching crabs as a kid.
