🇲🇹 Malta: “Kant” Lyrics Approved by EBU with Eurovision Revamp Expected

Miriana Conte has said that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have approved the lyrics for her Eurovision 2025 entry, “Kant”.

Speaking on TVM+’s Ras Imb Ras programme, the singer said that “Kant” would also be going through a revamp before this year’s contest in Basel, Switzerland.

During the interview, Conte did say that while there would be could be some adjustment to the song’s lyrics, its chorus would stay the same:

The EBU accepted that the song remains the same, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

“Kant” has drawn significant attention for its chorus, in which the singer proclaims that they are “serving Kant”. Kant is a Maltese word meaning ‘singing’, but its similarity to an expletive in the English language had led many to speculate that it could be banned at Eurovision.

The EBU, which coordinates the Eurovision Song Contest, appears to have approved the lyrics as they are. Conte has said that other lyrics in the song might be changed as part of a wider revamp of “Kant”, but that it won’t change significantly:

The song will obviously be revamped, but it won’t change, it’ll stay the same.

Miriana Conte performed “Kant” at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025, winning the show with 182 points overall. She performed first during the final, earning 88 points from the juries and 94 points from the public vote. While she came second with the juries to “Heaven Sent” by Kristy Spiteri, she won the public vote to win the contest overall by just eight points.

She will perform for Malta in the 2nd semi-final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest on May 15.
