A humpback whale briefly swallowed a kayaker in the Strait of #Magellan, south of Chile, before spitting him out unharmed. The episode was caught on camera and quickly went viral after being posted on social media by his father, Dell Simancas.
Experts explain that the whale could not have swallowed the young man, as its gullet is less than 40 cm wide.
“It seems that the #kayak was right in the whale’s feeding zone,” according to Maria José Pérez, a marine biologist at the University of Chile. This is why we can see it “emerging to the surface sideways, with its mouth open.”
