Soooo, disregarding the short breaks scheme for a moment, the £1.75M left over equates to a crisp £5 note each for the estimated 310,000 unpaid carers in Wales? -All their problems are solved.
I actually remember this in England, I only got called in once, it was before the coalition. I didn’t know what it was about. But someone chatted to me for a bit and said it was about getting a sum of money to spend on myself and then I got the money. To be honest the thought was almost as good as the money.
It sounds like a good thing, but no-where near enough. They would be better focusing on the carer needs assessments which were contained within the Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2016, which have then been routinely ignored by some local authorities to the indifference of Welsh Govermenr. Has the potential to make a much bigger impact.
