  1. Something needs to be done but zero confidence anything will be. Sad state of affairs to put it mildly

  2. Too many MLA’s and their chums are landlords nothing will get done but a pretence to do something

  3. I can only hope this is translated into fueling more houses being built rather than landlord bashing. Many landlords with mortgages will have had rates jump, so passed them on, but it’s rental demand that will be driving this.

Build more houses, relax planning laws where makes sense to do so, offer better first time buyer incentives.

Immigration is increasing, people need to be housed. Fulfil the demand for housing with better supply, not cost penalties for landlords, which will only get passed onto consumers without demand not going anywhere.

  4. Politicians have no trouble letting rents climb higher than inflation but when it comes to public sector pay every penny has to be fought out of them.

  5. FFS. This is ridiculous.

I mean how is sleeping in the streets? I fear I might be there soon.

Like even if we strike, it does fuck all.
New children’s hospitals get built. Very cool but where did that money come from all of a sudden.

Something radical needs to happen. I don’t know what that is but we need superman…

  6. This is because everyone wants something, bigger house bigger car bigger holidays. I wished I worked in the post office and robbed them the same as a few of my mates did, and who said crime doesn’t pay. One admitted to everyone that he actually did steal the cash, and only got a suspended sentence, didn’t have cup pay back the £60/70,000 he nicked. And 24 years later HE COME BACK CRYING for compensation and he bloody well did.£600,000 into his back. Didn’t give a fuck about anyone. Some you will be paying rent to his new houses he gonna buy. Fleecing everyone.

  7. Capitalism, working as intended. You will not find a capitalist country where this isn’t the issue because it’s woven into the system by design. It’s intentional because it benefits the capitalist (landlord) to increase rents.

  8. Any good news? I come to my mum’s and I got the same today 😂 “mortgages are up, prices up, rents up,” Jesus wept.

  9. Rent when I moved into my last rental in Strandtown in East Belfast was £575 in 2021. Rent in the same street now varies depending on if the houses is recently renovated or not, the listings have been between £900-1100 since mid last year. 3 houses listed, 3 let agreed within a week.

At the top end of that scale that’s nearly a 100% increase between 2021 and now, it must be so hard for single people and first time renters. Not to mention those without a guarantor, once upfront payments are banned people without a guarantor won’t be able to offer a few months upfront anymore and will be depending on guarantor services which are an additional monthly cost.

  10. It’s all got a very much 2008ish feel about it lads. I think its all going to go badly wrong . The last time I heard brickies and plumbers talking about how many properties they owned and how the property price would never fall…..,well let’s just say it didn’t end very well.

  11. I can’t afford to rent let alone buy. This is bull crap. I’m not even on minimum wage

  12. Well mine went up 25% with the letting agent having the audacity to say I’m lucky as I’m still paying below market level.

I’m not looking forward to the inevitable letter of doom arriving this April.

  13. London ⚾ knocks it out of the park once again, hooray…

  14. It’s okay, the interest rate came down so all the BTL landlords will drop the rent to reflect their reduced costs right? Right?

  15. I’ve been incredibly lucky that mine hasn’t gone up since 2019, and that this year will be my last of renting. I can’t imagine how most people can cope with a massive increase in rents.

  16. I see everyone complaining as I sit her on £460 for the last 4-5 years.

Saying that I think mine is reasonable, same house is £800 I am thankful my landlord is down to earth and honestly isn’t worried about the money as it’s basically for his retirement.

And it’s only a wee 2 up 2 down terrace house, which I couldn’t justify it being £800.

  17. Landlords are nothing more than the biggest groups of parasites and scum on this earth. Even the father of capitalism despised them.

Wankers who try to make a living from SOMEONE ELSE’S money while they get to sit doing fuck all. But God forbid they can’t buy their 3rd property to make an extortion from a mother of 2.
