Princess Kate and Princess Anne are set for some family rivalry this weekend as a big rugby match is set to take place.

England and Scotland will play against one another in the Six Nations rugby tournament on Saturday, which is likely to cause some friendly competition between The Princess of Wales, 43, and the Princess Royal, 74.

This is because Kate is the patron of England’s Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League – a position she has held since 2022 – while Anne has been the patron of the Scottish Rugby Union since 1986.

Both Princess Kate and Princess Anne are believed to be big rugby fans, as revealed by various family members over the years.

This includes Princess Anne’s son-in-law former rugby player Mike Tindall, who once praised his mother-in-law for her knowledge on the sport.

Kate is used to some family rivalry when it comes to rugby.

This is because Prince William – Kate’s husband – is the patron of the Welsh rugby team.

This was shown at the start of the Six Nations tournament this year when William sent the team a message of support.

He wrote last month as the tournament was set to begin: “Wishing @welshrugbyunion the very best of luck tonight against France, and throughout @sixnationsrugby! Amdani!”

As well as both William and Kate being interested in the sport, it appears their three children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, also love rugby.

In 2023, Kate told people that “Louis is mad about rugby”, while George had previously been seen at rugby games with his father.
