Knock knock, it’s the Thought Police: As thousands of criminals go uninvestigated, detectives call on a grandmother. Her crime? She went on Facebook to criticise Labour councillors at the centre of the ‘Hope you Die’ WhatsApp scandal.

The police rang her to tell her there had been a complaint made about her. Said she had committed no crime and then the conversation ended.
The daily mail is so desperate for anything to criticise labour it’s pathetic. We are in the middle of an international crisis and all they can do is make mountains out of molehills to criticise our government.
Imagine unironically posting a link to the Daily Mail.
To save anyone wading through that, what actually happened is that someone had made a complaint of harassment against her.
The police said it was part of police procedure to advise someone if they have had a complaint of harassment made against them.
This is what the police were doing – advising her, I assume that this procedure also involves gathering her side of the story.
There is no suggestion in the article that she was doing anything wrong or that the police threatened her with prosecution.
This might appear as an overreaction, but I’d disagree, if you look at the failures of police over the years in harassment cases, it’s an appropriate response to ensure that any genuine harassment isn’t missed.
We don’t know if the police spoke to the complainant about making a nuisance complaint – that isn’t detailed in the article.
