This is a map of all the towns settled by Welsh immigrants in my home state, made by a local craftsman. I live in one of them, I thought you all might like to know that folks here are proud of their Welsh roots that built our communities.

  1. Hey, that’s really cool! Off to Wikipedia I go!

  2. Hey, have you got any of the actual town names? I’m close enough on the Indiana side that some of these would be a decent visit on a weekend.

  3. I spent a lot of time in North West Ohio, I had no idea, even though I spent a lot of time trying to educate people about Wales. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Shandon’s well out of place – it should be almost right next to the Indiana border.

    Source – I’m a Cincinnati lass.

You’re also missing Bangorville (south of Mansfield) named after Bangor, ME which was named after Bangor, Wales

  5. As a Welshman who spends time in the US, I love this very much.

    Ardderchog!

  6. That’s awesome! 4 years ago I moved to a village here in Wales called Cilcennin, correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the first families who agreed to embark on the Ceredigion to Ohio exodus in 1818 were families from Cilcennin. Six families from Cilcennin had been persuaded to start the exodus after a meeting in a nearby village’s pub (in a place called Pennant) and they embarked from Aberaeron.

A total of 36 families joined them and it took 2 months for them to arrive. They had initially planned to join the first Welsh settlers in Ohio who had established ‘Paddy’s Run’, but after landing in America they decided to stay put and were the founders of the Welsh communities in Jackson and Gallia. A further 3,000 Cardis (a name for Cardiganshire people, now the county known as Ceredigion) had joined them by 1850, and that area was known as “Little Cardiganshire”.

  7. I thought this was the Australian state: New South Wales, as some high level chicanery with the Welsh flag on it. If you look at the shape of it (south-eastern coast) you’ll see what i mean.
    So weird!
