Denmark-Olar basketball headed to first state final since 1990, GIAA scores

  • 28.02.2025

Florence, SC. (WRDW/WAGT) -In Florence, both Denmark-Olar boys and girls basketball teams hit the hardwood for the SCHSL Class A Lower State Championship.

Girls were up first playing Military Magnet Academy. The same team that had sent the Lady Vikings home on more than one occasion.

Denmark-Olar girls couldn’t ignite their offense against a loaded Military Magnet team, they were outscored 29 to 17 in the opening half and weren’t able to recover. The Lady Vikings season ends just short of the state final, 57-36.

Next, the boys took center court against Bethune-Bowman. The Vikings led 25-15 at the halfway mark and advanced to an 63-49 win over the Mohawks.

Terance Hinton and Joshua Goodman were credited for 21pts each.

The win gives Denmark-Olar boys basketball their first appearance in the state final since 1990, when the Vikings fell to St. George.

They’ll now face Abbeville on Thursday at 4p.m.

Over in the GIAA AA Boys, Brentwood and Augusta Prep were playing in the Final Four.

It was Prep’s first appearance in the semifinal since 2014. The Cavs fell to No. 3 Furtah Prep 68-31.

Brentwood, taking on No.1 Heritage, couldn’t complete the comeback in the fourth quarter after being down by as much as four at one point, 62-51.
