It wont disappear – they’re keeping the bit that makes all the money at train stations and airports. Surprised the high street bit survived this long – really odd shop that sells a lot of things, but specialises in nothing
In 2008 my colleagues and I speculated which high street chains would go bankrupt and disappear from our high streets first.
I speculated WHSmith would be gone before the year end. I am amazed it has survived this long.
It’s been circling the drain for decades, I’m surprised it’s lasted as long as it has
Not really a surprise.
They’ve been renting out floorspace in their retail units for years.
It is a shame it’s the only place I know of that has a full selection of magazines on the high street. Remember going there to get American hip hop magazines as a kid and later on cigar magazines.
But let’s be fair aside from that and maybe buying a new fountain pen they don’t do anything that Waterstones etc doesn’t do and better.
Change it to “H W Smith’s”
I swear the only time I’m ever in a WHSmiths is when I’m dying of thirst in an airport and need water
Who cares, no one shops there anyway,

£3 bottles of water and stationary. A self service till that makes you click through a dozen offers before you get to pay. Can get practically everything they sell cheaper somewhere else.
I won’t miss them.
