REEVES COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) – On March 5, at about 11:30 p.m. a pipeline in Reeves County caught fire and exploded.
According to the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office, two vacuum trucks were attempting to steal petroleum products from a station designed for pipeline maintenance. However, a combination of violated safety protocols, and the buildup of static electricity combined with the high pressure of the pipeline caused a fire and detonation.
The fire was contained before it could move into more populated areas.
Reeves County Sheriff’s are working with the FBI, ATF, Texas Department of Public Safety, State of Texas emergency management to investigate.
No arrests have been made yet, but Reeves County Sheriff’s say the criminal investigation is ongoing and those involved will be prosecuted on multiple charges.
