Lindblad Expeditions offers families the opportunity to explore the landscapes of Iceland in fun and educational ways. Their expedition cruises provide a blend of adventure and learning, ideal for families who want to take in the scenery along with engaging in hands-on activities designed for all ages.
The cruise has onboard naturalists and guides who provide expert insights into the island’s geology, Viking history and wildlife, allowing travelers to fully immerse themselves in the culture. Families can venture into Iceland’s remote regions, including towering waterfalls, volcanic islands and villages such as Flatey.
Young explorers can stay engaged during the trip with programs such as the National Geographic Global Explorers Program. By providing hands-on activities that teach them about Iceland’s birdlife, wildlife tracking, and geology, children are encouraged to participate in fun and interactive experiences throughout the trip.
Specific activities include studying wing types with paper airplanes, crash courses on birding and binoculars, exploring geology with desserts, tracking whales, making music videos, trying on a blubber glove and deciphering Icelandic language.
Whether it’s kayaking through the country’s clear waters, exploring volcanic landscapes or participating in the “Cookie Crumble” geology experiment, there is an activity for every member of the family. The ship’s family-friendly itinerary also includes stops such as Heimaey, a historical volcanic island where travelers can learn about volcanoes while continuing to enjoy the views.
“This absolutely massive landscape is condensed into their hands in an approachable way,” said Anna Kayes, a certified field educator who highlighted activities kids might participate in across a variety of offered itineraries.

Additional experiences include photographing large fields of vibrant purple flowers with the help of a certified photo instructor, dancing in Siglufjörður and relaxing in the GeoSea Baths in Húsavík.
Lindblad Expeditions provides a blend of relaxation and discovery for adults as well. From participating in talks on the island’s history to relaxing on the deck, the cruise offers a variety of experiences for all travelers.
The ship also provides comfortable amenities, with cabins having outside facing portholes or balconies, well-equipped bathrooms and climate controls.
Alongside snacks and beverages available onboard at all times, meals are informal and easy with a variety of options that will suit ranges of tastes. The onboard chefs draw on ingredients and cuisine from the ports that are visited, giving families the chance to try new flavors and local dishes.
“Coming to Iceland with National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is the perfect way to explore this incredibly vast and remote landscape,” said naturalist Patrick Webster.
