I get why people are pissed because funding was secured based on allowing access to trans women but death threats are a bit crazy.

I think some pushback I saw to the idea was from women who had already been challenged by other women about whether they were trans, because they were not “feminine” enough, questioning whether for a gym like this they would be welcome or would face some sort of interrogation?
Mandatory genital inspection before entry! Nothing makes me feel safe from sexual assault like being felt up by the staff.

Regardless on your opinions about trans women, this is a case of fraud plain and simple – she raised money for this gym with the explicit caveat that it would allow membership to trans women. If she wants to change the terms of membership she should offer refunds to everyone who donated to her fund.
Also a ciswomen-only policy is practically unenforceable, many trans women can and do pass as ciswomen, would a membership to this gym require a genetic test?? Furthermore many ciswomen have attributes that are not traditionally associated with femininity (non-Eurocentric features, facial and body hair caused by PCOS, high testosterone), which could lead to ciswomen also being excluded.
EDIT: I’m sorry my wording was imprecise, when I said “many ciswomen have attributes that are not traditionally associated with femininity (non-Eurocentric features…”, I did not mean to imply that non-Eurocentric features are not feminine. What I meant to say was that standards of femininity/beauty are often very Eurocentric, and sometimes features that don’t align with that are deemed masculine/unfeminine. I’m sorry if that caused any confusion or offence 🙂
Marketing these days includes death threats
Death threats are always bad, but I think often it’s used as a “see I’m right all these people are just lunatics who send death threats,” thing you can give any opinion and get a death threat now I’ve got them from playing video games.
For this I have nothing against a women’s only gym but I did think there were definitely going to be some men who did and then made a point to go and go “well I identity as a woman so you can’t stop me,” even though they don’t, then it becomes how do you prove they aren’t etc, Obviously that’s different to trans women.
The whole trans hate thing just is so weird to me they’re such a small portion of the population and they take up such a massive part of the culture war right now for seemingly no reason. It’s also gonna be hard to enforce.
I’m in support of trans women, but reject the particular posts wishing death as being inflammatory and to be addressed with relevant criminal sanctions. No exceptions for that kind of behaviour. None. The people wishing her death are an embarrassment to pro-trans people and causes.
Oh, and Xhitter can delete itself in a social media binfire too, all the playground bullies can choke on their own self hatred there without the need for anyone else’s help

I think the problem here is that she actively advertised it as trans friendly when she was building her following and I know she got a lot of support from the trans community because of this.
It is quite a big fuck you.
It is also very much pushing the law when it comes to the issue and setting precident for exclusing trans women from more and more spaces. This justification wouldn’t hold up in any other context you couldn’t exclude black people because some of your cutomers might be scared of being around black people.

As a man I am banned from her gym and I do not care in the slightest.
As a 57 year old Feminist therapist I have spent fucking years not wanting to be reduced to my genitalia yet here we are . TERFS are setting us back a century .
Not sure about the source here – the owner of the site is pretty famous for having just openly published genuine Nazi stuff in the past, and the site is absolutely nothing but trans hate.
That being said, obviously nobody should be getting death threats, it’s awful. The justification is weird though; she cites Muslim women not feeling able to veil around trans women (OK, but why will she be allowing filming at the gym?) and her experience with sexual harassment, which I’m not sure is something trans women are doing at the gym en masse. That her stance has changed so suddenly since her funding rounds a few years ago is odd as well. Seems more about driving controversy than anything.
Tiny issue made into a national level drama. She wants to open a female gym. Don’t go if you’re a man or a creepy predator posing as a woman, or you’ll probably be ejected. Do go if you’re a fully transitioned man to woman. It doesn’t have to be that difficult. We’re talking how many trans people that would even visit this gym? Tiny numbers.
She can do what she wants, it is her businesses and that is capitalism. Just like Meta, Reddit or any other platform can decide who and what is posted there.
She clearly felt there was desirability to do this.

Isn’t it kind of a non issue? And I’m saying that for both sides. I doubt you’ll even get any trans people there or notice if they are? There’s really not as many as people think. The UK have a real issue with playing the “what if worst case” card in order to block everything and anything.
This is why we no longer have lesbian bars and clubs, gender discrimination rules means cis men invade the spaces and even if they are there as an ally it is still not great. Female only spaces are empowering / can be really good. You guys shouldn’t block them but try to work towards a compromise that can work for everyone.
Do death threats mean we are dealing with terrorists? Seeing as we’re talking about a group of people making threats not just one person. What’s the authorities take on this.

lol what, the responses are so unhinged people are pretending its a false flag attack. Whole topic baffles me tbh, people say sex and gender are different and yet time and time again if you try to differentiate them people jump on you.
