The Malta Mustangs have won the Northern B Divisional Championship and are now aiming for the Class B State Tournament title, representing a significant year for Malta athletics.
MALTA, Mont. – The Malta Mustangs are celebrating their Northern B Divisional Championship win but remain focused on their next goal.
With a top seed in the Class B State Tournament, the Mustangs have the opportunity to add another title to an already successful year for Malta athletics. Senior forward Stockton Oxarart expressed his excitement, saying, “Oh it’s unreal feeling. I can’t wait to go into state as the number one seed. And it’s not the first time we’re number one, so hopefully we just keep keep it rolling at the state.”
Senior guard Bohdi Brenden reflected on the team’s journey, stating, “Feels so good just knowing what happened last year. We didn’t we weren’t where we wanted to be. And to get back to where we want to be. It just feels so good.”
Many of the Mustangs recently celebrated a Class B football championship, and now they aim to pair that with a state basketball title. “Yeah, that that’d be pretty sweet. We haven’t done that for a while now. I think it’s since 2000. We did that. So we pretty sick to hang up two banners like that,” said Oxarart
The team’s strong chemistry and dynamic playmaking have been crucial to their success this season. “Our chemistry is great. It’s unreal. We have ten guys that can score, and, it’s it’s awesome. I love being a part of this team,” Oxarart shared.
“So good. It just takes pressure off everybody. And just know that everybody can score whenever they want to. It just just helps everyone. It helps us get the W,” said Brenden.
The Mustangs carry the pride of their community with them each time they play. “It just feels so good. Just Malta’s called title town for a reason. So we’re going to try to get back to that chipper and give these fans what they want,” said Brenden.
The Mustangs’ pursuit of a state championship begins Thursday in Missoula.
