The new boat is nine meters long and capable of a maximum speed of 39 knots and will be a significant addition to the Latvian Navy’s Minesweeper Squadron, supporting the survey of shipwrecks sunk during World War II and the transportation and disposal of unexploded ordnance.

The donation includes training, boat equipment, and spare parts valued at $500,000 by the donor. The donation is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense.

A team of US instructors arrived in Latvia on March 10 to prepare the boat and launch it into the water. From March 11 to 14, the Latvian Navy Mine Countermeasures Squadron diver team is undergoing theoretical and practical training.

Latvia and the United States have been cooperating within the framework of military assistance programs for more than 20 years. The United States has made a significant contribution to the development of the National Armed Forces, in 2024 alone, US support in the field of defense cooperation reached 82 million US dollars.
