European defence: Could ‘inherent political tensions within EU’ be obstacle to forming united front?
Military chiefs from 30 countries are in the French capital at the Paris Forum on Defence and Strategy with a focus on creating an international military force to deter Russian aggression once a ceasefire in Ukraine has been implemented. For an in-depth analysis and a deeper perspective on Russia’s war on Ukraine and the challenges that lie ahead to even reach an agreement on a ceasefire, FRANCE 24’s Annette Young welcomes Dr Gavin Hall, NATO expert and Teaching Fellow in Political Science and International Security at the University of Strathclyde.

Could 'inherent political tensions within EU' be obstacle to forming united front? You're joking, right?
This is reality:
There has always been a portion of the American population that does not give two sh*ts about the rest of the world, and they have taken over Washington and are becoming entrenched.
Europe has to prepare for American withdrawal from NATO because the risk is real, and imminent.
Ancestral animosities are never far away in Europe, brushing it away is easier said than done.
13 Oct 2022 Macron declared "Nuclear neutrality"
Nobody believes in France
Are you, Europians, ready to fight ? Its not about illusion "peace negotiations".
European Federation needs to be achieved, maybe with the multi-speed europe project, the fastest and less resistance path to do it
I'm sure that you will have more meetings about this, lmao…
Japan won't partner with them so stop assuming things or misleading people.
No need for "peacekeepers" who would not be accepted by Russia bc considered as combattants.
No need for foreign military in Ukraine if Ukraine declares itself to credible Neutrality-status!
Therefore once again senseless talk in Paris !
Can countries within Europe put total Trust in each other?
For example no differences will ever occur between Germany, France or UK…but what if it happens and it leads to conflict.
But Nato has history of being stuck by Russia whenever it wants to do something. So forget Nato, forget the US and Forget Russia
I think peace between Russia and Ukraine is very controversial there are a lot of things to be discussed .Europe and and allies freezed Russian assets in theirs countries .the second thing is Ukraine would be a neutral or part of Europe that is main points
Well…. CIA, Mossad, Mi6 are busy in the middle east, no time to save Europe πππ
So youβre gonna expect the Germans to accept French nukes in their motherland?
You think the more right leaning Germans would be okay with that?
Newsflash: a few decades of alignment will never erase the thousands of years of war memories
Your best bet is America. Find a way to keep the Americans there
France will not relinquish command authority over their entire nuclear arsenal. No way. But they might allow limited independent access to a small portion of their stockpile under certain circumstances. That is essentially similar to US nuclear sharing agreements. Or they could just forward deploy nuclear capable aircraft in allied countries with the weapons always under their own control but with the implied tripwire of France reaction if those forces were attacked.
Hilarious, Ursula should be the decider sure
So by the USA's deadbeat spending, they diminished their own ability to defend; thus diminishing the whole's ability to defend – thereby forcing tactics onto weapons of last resort because, well, they feel it's the last resort? Is that about right?
The constant hysteria and lust for more war doesn't help. People are tired of the propaganda.
Come on France let`s do this.. Denmark stands with you as always.. Vive la union Europe.
πππππππ
Are you kidding? It's a nonsense France and nuclear weapons.
There will not be a "peacekeeping force" from NATO countries in Ukraine.
It is just childish to pretend otherwise.
And who wants to turn NATO ally Canada into a US state? And who wants control of Greenland, with or without the acquiesce of NATO ally Denmark and/or Greenlanders themselves? And people like this guest and no small number of Europeans fancifully think America under Trump a dependable cornerstone to deterring Putin. Octogenarian US Senators can hardly turn to see what unconstitutional length he has gone to each morning much less do a thing about that or what he obviously will do next if you listen to what he says. Europe, being left 'high and dry' when some plan including a United States that 'took it's ball and went home' will elicit a "Oh, we had a plan. Now what do we do". Putin given rest, will press to control once Soviet Era vassal-states, including half of Germany, again as he has stated to Europe's face for decades. And this guest talking logistics. Ukraine supplies ~200,000 fighters on the contact line. What small fraction of that does Europe think they could field abroad after a Putin allows their Ukraine presence only if Ukrainian forces return to their barracks? Whatever ground element Europe might fantasize putting into Ukraine would only be bypassed as Russia siezed critical Ukrainian energy, transport nodes, and the like.
We should have Hungary leading it.
Europe has never unified in a 1000 years. It just does not function like a single country, that's all ! The differences are issue by issue, day by day. There is never total concensus.
Europe needs to find its confidence. Europe has excellent warriors, intellectual capability, access to advanced military techniques, technology and a strong workforce and incredible warriors. Europe can do this and now must take the leap.
