Moldova’s trade deficit widened to USD 477.1 million in January 2025 from USD 349.2 million in the same month last year, as exports dropped while imports rose.

Year-on-year, exports plunged by 11.2% to USD 243.3 million, weighed down by lower sales to CIS countries (-25.6%) and the EU (-24.1%), while shipments to other countries increased (31.6%).

Meanwhile, imports grew by 15.6% to USD 720.4 million, driven by increased purchases from CIS countries (9.0%) and the EU (39.9%), while arrivals from other countries declined (-5.0%).
