  1. So, to clarify

No impact on residents, but a concern of an uptick in crime?

Whoever is in charge of these policies at the Met needs sacking. Not having their scope redefined, but actually sacking, there’s no hope for them.

  2. Thought this was r/jazzcirclejerk for a minute

Nope, just the MET weaponizing their own incompetance once again.

  3. London is a 12-hour city, not a 24-hour city, and it’s a joke.

  4. The Met and Westminster are against the night time economy as a blanket rule and will fight any attempt to improve the situation regardless of specifics (no specifics are referred to here).

This sort of decision should get called in by the mayor or central government if the usual stakeholders can’t follow a sensible decision making process.

  5. Police don’t like councils putting up benches for people to sit on because they attract crime. From the police’s perspective statistically if everyone just stayed at home they’d be no street crime and they wouldn’t have to do anything.

  6. Ronnie Scott’s is not too far away and does not have any problems associated with its opening hours which are until 03:00 Wednesdays to Saturdays. So you could argue there is a precedent.

  7. Jazz causing an uptick in crime?

Is it the 2020’s or the 1920’s?

  8. Ah yes, the “this venue / establishment will increase crime” from the police, how familiar!

Okay, storytime: We wanted to open a decent late night street food stall in Soho because we hang out there all the time and it’s impossible to get something quick after 10-11 p.m.

We were perplexed that there are no food stalls in the Soho proper, only one guy selling bratwurst in front of the Maccies by the Harry Potter theatre.

Then we got serious, and found that the council actually had designated lots, which are not ideal (no footfall, mobile toilets nearby) but we did find vacant ones

Okay, how could we get it open late night? You can’t. Why? Fuck you, that’s why!

The council guideline states that “Police told us an open food stand will bring in crime and violent behaviour if there are places to eat after 11 p.m.”.

Oh, I dunno, how about the police, you know DOING THEIR JOB?

The council also is worried about food waste and noise, which is more reasonable than this bs.

Anyway, we got told to fuck off, end of story
