The cuts haven’t happened yet have they?
While I truly sympathise with these people, the welfare system needs reform. From the key points released yesterday it seems pretty fair so far, payments for Pip will go up in line with inflation, people who are clearly living with long-term conditions will no longer have to face frequent reassessments, people with life-long conditions who will receive the new reduced rate of UC will be topped up with a premium, younger people will be offered more pathways into employment or training rather than a pathway to becoming NEET, and more.
The concerns are valid, but we at least need to be able to have a discussion on welfare reform without jumping to the conclusion that the disabled and vulnerable will be targeted and left to fend for themselves.
So I’m a disabled person and obviously I’m not here to speak for everyone because I can’t. I’m not going to worry too
Much until we get closer to things actually happening but I have a lifelong condition so hopefully I’ll be okay. My worry is they’ll say I don’t need PIP because I work but the reality is I don’t earn loads and I need to spend more money on adaptations and stuff. It’s going to be unfair on others though, I have a family member who is chronically ill and can barely get up there own stairs anymore and they don’t qualify so if it gets harsher no one’s gonna get it. We need to reform the assessment process, not just keep making it harsher.
Very interesting how this is treated versus the Tory cuts over the years.
Sadly the decisions this country makes has impacts.
I was long term unemployed and had lots of anxiety, and it was an EU funded program that helped me get into work.
Then we left the EU.
All these bad decisions have a terrible cost.
Anybody “fearing” their next PIP assessment knows that they shouldn’t be qualifying for it and deserves to be removed from it.
You shouldn’t be scared of something you know you’re entitled to.
Īll
They should simply follow Sir Keith’s example and get a very rich person to buy their cloths and pay their rent
The issue I have isn’t so much them wanting to make changes it’s that the changes will do nothing but punish people.
It’s all good and sound bites when most companies aren’t going to hire disabled people, sure they’ll interview you but why would they hire you? What’s that you have prolonged periods where you might not be able to work? Your ability to work could vary day to day? Sure let’s give you a job.
Add on how stupidly complex, awkward and downright insulting the PiP system is. If you ever known anyone whose actually applied for it you’ll understand what I mean. Having to try and prove to someone that you are actually disabled whilst they are actively trying to catch you out is demeaning and reminds me less of a care system and more like an interview with a fucking secret police force in a dictatorship.
Then again last time I checked closing tax loopholes and sorting out tax avoidance would cover the same amount of money labour are claiming this would save but God fucking forbid we do that, or that we cut back on funding wars.
