  1. Posh twat.
Owen jones is a fucking massive twat also.

  2. Man currently living a life that costs £X per month says he could not live on £Y per month (£Y being less than £X). Well, obviously?

What are the likes of Owen Jones advocating for? Benefits should fund your full mortgage payments? How would that be *remotely* affordable?

  3. whats this £70 a week there talking of? i heard him say personal independence payments for £72.65 but the way he phrased it was as if thats on top of £70 a week?

  4. If you watch the full clip he’s very clearly saying that he couldn’t live on £70 per week *because he isn’t entitled to the other benefits which would help pay rent*.

  5. This isn’t news. It’s tik tok opinion waffle. Not appropriate for the sub

  6. How does that Labour Minister differ from a Tory one.

  7. I could live on 70£ a week + housing benefits if I didn’t have a mortgage, bills and liked to go on holiday once a year.

I work hard and pay my way and have things that I’ve bought with my remuneration for working.

Benefits are for people who have fallen on hard times and need help to get by. It’s not a ‘wage’ and it’s not there to provide an amazing lifestyle… if it did, what incentive would there be to work and earn more.

  8. Owen Jones isn’t a journalist. This isn’t news.

  9. Does no one here have any critical thinking skills whatsoever?

Jones is SUCH a grifter now, laughable level of journalism.

How can no one actually listen to the interview and not understand what he is saying

  10. Amazing that Owen has time for this between statements condemning Hamas.

  11. Convinced Owen jones is a moron.

Literally not listening to what he’s saying.

  12. Lol. I paid taxed for 18 years of my life. I needed support for 1 month between jobs.
I was entitled to exactly 0.

  13. At least you’re hearing from someone making around 100k a year, our minister in Singapore is earning around 1m a year and they have the same mentality.

  14. This video is bullshit

If you require housing, the government will provide you housing.

The £70 a week is for an adult to buy food and basic needs. Once, when I was working a very strenuous and physical job, I was budgeting and eating for £2 a day. This was just after Covid (so more like £4 a day now). This was breakfast, lunch and dinner.

How much do you want to incentivise people not to work? If someone has an actual disability, then they receive disability benefits.

£280 a month is plenty for people who can live with family, to get to/from work and eat. Giving people more money would incentivise a lazy workforce.

  15. Well people getting the money don’t have a mortgage to pay which is what I assume he meant

  16. I thought we’d be safe from these sort of inhuman cuts with Tories out of power.

Getting on benefits a few years ago when I could barely leave the house with anxiety, the stress of the paperwork and the phone calls, it put me in a dark place and culminated in me cutting into my neck with a kitchen knife rather than call an ambulance and risk being taken out of my home and suffer the panic that would ensue.

I’m stable and getting much better each week with help but all of these proposed changes have brought back the suicidal thoughts again, of how bad it will be next time when I need to go through the whole process again.

I wish they could see and feel how it feels to be in our position. When your life is on the line, what’s just paperwork and points to them, is a mountain hike rigged with booby traps where every sentence, every word could be twisted to strip you of all hope and independence. It was already a nightmare, what it is going to become if these proposals pass.

I know they’re trying to target the people who are gaming the system, but these changes won’t affect them, they’ll still find a way to game the system and the rest of us with genuine issues will be absolutely and unapologetically screwed.

  17. Disabled people were already 3 times more likely to live in poverty. Young people are already struggling to get jobs at all, let alone jobs that can give them financial security.

An Amnesty UK spokesperson has literally described these recent cuts as a violation of human rights.

  18. Oh this little wanker. Can’t stand him, I’m sorry I can’t even watch this.

  19. Owen Jones and Nigel Farage two sides of the same rage baiting coin.

  20. Without having housing to pay for, its doable to live off £70 a week. Just a miserable existence where you have to count every penny. In the case of a teenager fresh out of school and living with mum and dad, its pocket money until they get a job.

  21. Editing aside there’s no way £70 a week can get someone the bills paid and food in their fridge

  22. He probably has more than one house and a handful of illegitimate kids

  23. Imagine being the kind of guy who posts Owen Jones’ dog shit little videos. Couldn’t be me. Complete twat.

  24. The 70 quid a week is after theyve paid your rent, council tax, water rates and NI contributions.

  25. You can exist in a miserable existence for £70 a week rent paid or not. Let’s not pretend they are buying massive flat screen TVs got Netflix, avacado on toast and 3 holiday a year for fucks sake.

  26. £70 isn’t even for three bottles of wine. How do these people get by

  27. Tax the rich. The 1% that earn over £3M a year. That’s what the UK needs to do

  28. HE doesn’t ‘have a mortgage to pay’. WE PAY BOTH OF HIS MORTGAGES AND HE STILL GETS TO EITHER KEEP BOTH PROPERTIES OR POCKET LITERALLY ALL OF THE MONEY FROM SELLING THEM.

  29. Why is it so hard to look genuine when you’re on youtube? This scripted incredulance just sounds like a scam. I don’t get it. The suit is obviously out of touch and 70 quid is obviously shameful, but the Owen dude just makes me feel dirty agreeing with him.

  30. For someone who is gobsmacked, this guy sure has a lot to say

  31. I’d have had a much better chance at consuming the message without bias had Owen Jones been completely absent from this.

    Bloke is an absolute tit.

  32. Ok so 70 quid a week is doable for food, but it’s very tight. There is also a huge issue that vast numbers of people in the uk do not understand how to budget and cook. Could I live on 70 quid a week just for meals hell yeah, I understand cooking, making batch meals, nutrition and budgeting. Would it be fun. Nope, would it be easy to F up your budget definitely. Food is expensive doesn’t matter if you are buying ready meals which are inefficient or trying to buy fresh and getting bulk frozen and tinned pulses etc.

  33. Okay, so let’s say £70 a week just for food. You’d be ill in no time from all processed and unhealthy shite

  34. I’m not sure why the guy in the video is so outraged, he’s being correct, and honest (?) Are we all permanently outraged because of the internet so we lose our shit without even thinking? The guy on the bottom seems a bit thick
