The demise of Sarah and Charles’ romance left no ill feelings, however, and when Charles re-connected with Diana in 1980, Sarah is said to have given her blessing to the match. In fact, when their engagement was announced, she told The Guardian: ‘I introduced them. I’m Cupid.’ She married Neil Edmund McCorquodale that same year, a second cousin once removed of her stepmother, Raine Spencer. Together, they have three children: Emily, George and Celia.
Sarah and Diana remained close for the rest of the Princess’ life, with Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, remarking that her older sister was one of the few people Diana really trusted. Later in their lives, Sarah often accompanied Diana on official visits as one of her ladies-in-waiting. Upon her sister’s death in 1997, Sarah flew to Paris with her younger sister, Jane, and Prince Charles to accompany Diana’s body back to England, and she contributed to the readings at Diana’s funeral. She was also the co-executor of Diana’s will, and president of the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund before it closed in 2012.
