LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A University of Kentucky basketball legend has died at 89.
Former UK All-American Vernon Hatton was chosen as a 2023 SEC Legend.(WKYT)
Vernon Hatton scored 30 points against Seattle in the 1958 NCAA championship, leading the Cats to title number four.
The former Lafayette High School star scored 1153 points with the Cats.
The 1958 first-team all-American is famous for hitting the 48-foot-ten-inch shot to force a second overtime against Temple in December of 1957.
Hatton went on to play in the NBA and was honored as an SEC Legend in 2023.
