As summer nears, Brits are flocking to Portugal’s Madeira Island for affordable pints, sunny weather, and unforgettable experiences, making it the ultimate getaway.
As summer approaches, it’s time for Brits to start planning their holidays.
With the sunny season on the horizon, many are looking to book their trips abroad. While some are in search of sun-soaked destinations, others are after spots where they can enjoy an affordable pint of beer.
Experts from Travel Republic reveal that searches for “summer holiday” in the UK have surged by 102% over the past three months. Many Brits are also opting for nearby locations that offer budget-friendly beer options.
One such destination gaining popularity is the Portuguese island of Madeira. According to experts, the island’s capital, Funchal, is home to 16 British and Irish bars that serve traditional food and broadcast live sports.
Data shows Funchal offers great value when it comes to beer. Domestic pints average £2.28, while imported ones are £2.90, making it an ideal place for beer enthusiasts.
With flights from London taking under four hours and costing around £70, Madeira is easily accessible. Besides its cheap drinks, the island also boasts pleasant weather year-round.
TUI recommends Funchal for those who want to experience a blend of colonial architecture, churches, and relaxed squares. The charming old town features narrow streets lined with wine bars and family-run restaurants, while the marina offers plenty of cafes and seafood spots.
For a bit of adventure, visitors can take a cable car ride up to the scenic Monte suburb, known for its lush greenery and stunning botanical gardens. For an authentic taste of Madeira, travelers can also try the famous wicker sledges, which offer a unique way to glide back down to Livramento.
To the east of Funchal lies Canico De Baixo, a historic area with an old quarter surrounding an 18th-century church and a charming town square.
