Whatever the cause turns out to be, the electricity transformer fire causing [catastrophic infrastructure breakdown at Heathrow](https://inews.co.uk/news/large-fire-at-electrical-substation-near-heathrow-causes-widespread-power-cut-3597263?ico=in-line_link) is a reminder of the perils of hybrid warfare – fast becoming a daily reality in Britain and most of Europe.
[Cyber attacks ](https://inews.co.uk/topic/cyber-attacks?srsltid=AfmBOopJNo3e_1_9H6-on4jJeFR6AKWLtoHAefh7PXllDByS62pEksds&ico=in-line_link)alone routinely cause millions of pounds of damage, sometimes billions, each month.
Both Russia and America were now reliable only in their unpredictability, though their brand of toxicity is different.
Behind the scenes across the European capitals this week there has been a major shift in thinking.
Capitals and military headquarters are now actively considering how to operate for their nations’ security [without American guarantees and cover](https://inews.co.uk/opinion/consequences-trump-putin-phone-call-reverberate-years-come-3534194?srsltid=AfmBOoog3K85lgYaOBc22gaspA7nvArnIm2U9Gqq1DgIJjY9uMvHeKII&ico=in-line_link). This could mean forging a de facto alliance outside Nato itself.
Quite honestly with all my endless hate to Putin’s Russia I would not overestimate military danger from it to Europe. Right now in Ukraine is all russet’s military power (other then noks) That really all they can pull, nothing more.
This was a sobering read, though as far as being in a state of war today, yes, 100%. It’s become more overt before our eyes, but Russia and China have been playing a hybrid war for well, we’ll over a decade. Putin, for at least 2 decades. It’s just become more pronounced since the hot war in Ukraine and the overt supply of them by NATO members and others.
The development of the US… *that* is the sobering part, but as an American there is 0 doubt that it must needs be done, this new way of thinking by our allies, and with all due haste. If our allies go hard on defense, that undercuts the US admin’s attack that they are under investing in their defense, and gives our allies the ability to neutralize the near term threat of the US undercutting them. It would also allow for the real truth to come out more, as the admin has to pivot in their message in justification in their abuse and mistreatment of our allies. It’ll become more transparent in their fumbling attempts to pull the US out of NATO and put the nail in the coffin of Pax Americana post-WWII.
That may provoke a much stronger conversation within the US to pushback on all these changes, moreover. It’s going to be a confluence of events in the US, and it is very much at the precipice today.
