Man famous for show with endless superlative laden exaggerations comments on being part of traffic.
Amen
He doesn’t have children to know the benefits of a car in London.
Yeah, I’m not listening to this fucking muppet.
Only small cars to be honest
Cities should be inclusive of all modes of transportation regardless.

Yh ill take all my tools on my lime bike
Is that on the basis that people use their car just to go from point A to point B?
Well they do belong because they are useful for people that can’t take public transport for what they need
London is a big city, they definitely do belong here but not at the expense of peoples health and well being. Everybody needs cleaner air but we also need practicality and non-polluting cars are going to have to be the answer unless you want to bring back horse and carriage.
Of course a cyclist would want to see cars banned in a city covering square miles of land. People in hell want ice water, too.
Bring back horse and carriage!
Fuck disabled people right?
Depends whereabouts in London. Outer zones definitely still find cars very useful
Well that’s stupid, considering how large London is. Maybe not Zone 1. But the entirety of London? Daft.
he’s absolutely right.
It’s true cycling campaigners need to be less solemn and more focused on the joys of cycling but that’s very difficult to do when you’re cycling london and drivers are seemingly willing to kill you without a second thought.
If we converted more road space to cycling it would make people feel a lot safer and honestly discover the joy of getting around on a bike. Cycling around london ( on good infrastructure) is wonderful, fun, fast, healthy, cheap and incredibly efficient. If more people cycled and less people drove, the city would quieter, far less money would be spent on road maintenance and people would have more money to contribute to the economy.
People always have the same excuses ( weather, how will i carry my tools, wardrobe, etc) but they have all been debunked time and time again.
Well, he does say ‘all towns’ so not just London and as usual it’s all a bit flippant, tongue in cheek. Oh to be a floppy haired millionaire living on the river in Hammersmith, cycling to local pubs and shops without a care in the World and then driving sports cars on tracks at the weekend. Still, makes for good click bait.
Very Zone 1 take
London is huge I get if it meant central London but they have tried to lower traffic with the congestion charge and ulez but it’s such a busy city. Emergency services and vital industries need the roads. What needs to be done is stopping the people who don’t care about having to pay congestion or ulez because they can afford it
Oh those “hot takes” from spoiled people
Couldn’t agree more. Sadiq Khan should look at cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam, make areas naturally favour pedestrians and cyclists, make it totally undesirable for people to drive.
Pedestrianise Oxford Street and Regent Street, reduce Park Lane to 2 lanes, Pedestrianise the whole of Soho and Fitzrovia.
Although personally I consider London to be the least desirable place to drive already!
Fuck off if you think I’m cycling in the shite British weather that we have 90% of the year
Here’s my solution.
Taxis. Fucking lazy old people pretending they can’t walk. Everyone should use the crazy glow trikes. Who cares if they are £90 a mile scam artists.
Vans. Bikes with trailers
Trucks. Tandems with trailers
Ambiences… fucking ambulances driving everywhere like they own the place. One didn’t. Even stop at a red light the other day. Nearly killed me as I was coming through a red light the other way on my bike…
What about converting some roads away from cars into Trams/bike mixed use. On some roads you could have trams going each way and a narrow two way cycle lane
Have we gone back in time, he hasn’t been a Top Gear presenter for 10 years now.
He’s not wrong but the number of people choosing to drive in central London when they don’t need to is very small. Most drivers are doing it because they need a car for a specific reason. As he says, why the hell would you drive when public transport is cheap and plentiful.
I agree, however cyclists need to be more heavily regulated and policed. Their flagrant disregard for road laws and the lack of oversight when they break them makes them incredibly dangerous road users. At least half of them I see, run red lights, mount pavements and the like.
Before bicycles, London is a pedestrian city.
It’s true. A city built for carriages…. London has AMAZING public transportation.
“Babe, wake up, common sense just dropped”
What would we define as “London”?
Sounds like something you say to promote your new show about….. bikes.
Probably not even a serious or well thought out comment.
I used to see him riding his bike to the BBC office in White City, a few years back. The man is consistent. Also – couldn’t agree more.
Yeah I’m sure when he’s got a 6am call time for a shoot he’s in the mood to bike there…..
