  4. Well, you can simply go home and not worry about those mines…

    Those mines are really simple to make. Just get an ordinary mine, get a layer of glue on them and throw some local dirt or grass to the sticky surface.

  7. They (UA) need to make them so that they are not uniform in shape. These look like grass turds. More densely packed than normal grass. They blend in colour and texture, but not shape and density. They are pretty good however, to a soldier in a hurry, or tired, they could work.

  9. As opposed to Russian anti-personel mines, which presumably are very humane with signs that say “beware – mines” sticking out of them.

  10. They really should be made from high visibility material with reflector strips and little flashing lights above them that periodically say “There is a mine in this location”. They could be dangerous otherwise.

    Anti-personal mines are explicitly banned in warfare. It was such a big deal that they have 3 treaties just for mine use, all outright prohibiting personnel mines.

    Edit: The same regulations are the ones that make cluster munitions such a grey area.

  28. Funny, Russia uses something similar, the above-ground “butterfly mines” that are flat, green/brown, meant to scatter over a wide area and easily hide under loose soil and foliage, and most notably they pose an increased risk to children who may mistake them for a toy and pick them up.
