  3. Well, it’s actually due to both.

    Unlike other countries, where they used their wealth stolen from colonies to build useless shit like massive churches and palaces, we decided to invest in the country by building factories, railroads and creating a strong infrastructure that enabled people to innovate and create new high tech, high quality and precision goods.

    The low IQ think Switzerland is just Nazi gold and banks. It’s far from it.

    But at least the other countries have cool monuments to look at while we go on vacation.

  7. Sweden and Switzerland where pretty much equal after WW2. Not harmed by the war, we had a head start. The differences lies in geography, Switzerland is much smaller and the proximity to the big markets is much better.

    So being able to have cross-border trade between France, Germany and Italy, it would be strange if it didn’t become the richest part of the continent.

    Switzerland (a loose entity of city states) has tried to profitably participate in the European market since the 13th century. Back in the olden days, the European “market” consisted primarily of warfare business and since we were surrounded by the largest warlords in Europe and surprisingly good at slaughtering large armies (Eg. [Battle of Giornico](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Giornico))
    we participated on the European market by renting out Swiss mercenaries.

    When industrialization began and a real international goods market emerged, we realized that much higher margins could be earned with specialized industry than by renting out mercenaries (People like [Alfred Escher](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Escher) were the pioneers of this “new Switzerland”)

    Switzerland’s infamous financial center came into being because we have such a continuous (boring but good for investing money) history that our country is literally a big safe bunker.

    And one day, Jews left their gold here and never returned, so strange. Huge dickmove we deserve all the hate for but it’s not the reason for Switzerland’s wealth.

  15. Jokes aside, Switzerland has been pretty well off for a long time due to not being invaded (mountains) and of course the mercenary shenanigans.
    At first the Swiss were poor, so poor they couldn’t afford weaponry, and so they evolved long, sharp noses to stab their enemies with. Ever since, they have saved many resources on melee weapons in their military business.

    it’s simply very good not to be involved in a world war. Imagine the wealth in other european countries if they didn’t loose everything in the wars.
