I know it’s a bit early but let’s do it anyways

  1. Fuck Thatcher and her vile legacy, thanks for the downvotes

  2. I’ve been watching a bunch of videos on the tech (that we’re allowed to see) in the British Navy (armed forces in general as well). Some amazing innovations that I’m not educated enough to fully understand.

It would be cool if sailing was taught in schools, Naval stuff seems like such a core part of the British identity.

  3. The Argies the Limeys and the Yanks went to the zoo what to bloody do! We don’t have a clue!!

  4. Anytime the Falklands is mentioned, I see the face of the remarkable Simon Weston! ❤️❤️❤️

  5. This is a load of shitty AI inspired editing with neanderthal tribal chest-thumping that appeals to immature people (and not the fun type of immature). This isn’t the cool patriotic video you think it is

  6. Shortly after this the Argentines overthrew their extreme right wing junta. We unfortunately had to put up with ours for rather longer.

  7. My uncle served in that conflict. He lost a very good friend and never got over it.

  8. The only good thing Thatcher did. Can’t fault her on that even though I dislike her strongly.

Put us right back on the map.

  9. Also hilariously the only time in history where the US really tried to stay neutral and mediate between the 2 countries to prevent war.

At least they sold us Sidewinder missiles when war did break out.

Chile were bros too, at great risk to themselves.

  10. I feel I want to share a book I read many years ago – it’s called “sod that for a game of soldiers” is written by a soldier that served in the parachute regiment. He released/wrote the book as his son was signing up to join.

It’s a book about his experiences in the falklands war.

Something that sticks with me to this day is his description of charging at the enemy machine guns with bayonets.

  11. It’s all fun and games till a pissed off Para or Scot’s Guard is bayonet charging you

  12. Retaking the Falklands came with significant British casualties and loss of ships. It was no pushover.

  13. I’m surprised Vance and co haven’t started making noise about Argentina having a rightful claim and thinking about supporting them militarily

  14. Pointless war done to save her ratings, ding dong.

  15. Isn’t it just just like the north of Ireland though? The inevitability of another landmass being united with its logical host nation at the cost of British troops to no avail?

  16. The Argentinians had literally mo clue who they were fucking with. Thier armed forces were much more comfortable torturing defenceless citizens then fighting someone who shot back

  17. Or Paras, Bootnecks, Gurkhas, SAS, SBS etc. 🤙🏽😉

  18. Just wanna mention that the British empire is not something that we as a country should be proud of. During that time we committed genocide against multiple native peoples, enslaved thousands, caused mass opioid addiction in China and stole important historical artifacts from many different countries and cultures for no reason other than “we wanted it”. It’s an unfortunate stain on our history that should not be celebrated nor glorified.

  19. I have to give it, Britain’s are always ready for a conquest to add to their list…

  20. I worked with a Para on leave after combat, he could not go home to his wife and kids, he rented a flat, he didn’t trust himself.

  21. Obviously they have the right to self determination but it’s a bit mad isn’t it. It would be like Nicaragua owning Ireland

  22. This jingoistic tiktok edit is pretty pathetic… Like sure the Falklands were the UK’s sovereign territory and we had the right to them but the air punching is a bit much

  23. Newsweek’s cover page titled “The Empire Strikes Back” always makes me smile.

  24. A big thank you to the Chilean’s by the way. Always looking for a reason to screw with Argentina. Primarily in terms of saying “hey, this is YOUR problem” when Argentina tried to get help from their South American mates. But also in terms of allowing us to run intelligence operations from one of their bases on Tierra del Fuego.

  25. Cost millions
Didn’t feed a single hungry child

    Sounds familiar

  26. It’s mad to be that people still try to celebrate this as a stunning victory. It was an utterly pointless war, primarily because Maggie wanted to keep production of the harriers and typhoons going and because the British government ostensibly have the islands to Argentina (oil rights, cutting down on shipments from the UK, etc) but couldn’t get the people on the islands to acquiesce. It was a historical shit show of crap diplomacy and mismanaged contracts. Yes, the British military did amazing things, as they often do, in the face of absolute shit, but that is all. So many people died for nothing. Don’t celebrate the ‘victory’ celebrate the efforts of the people who fought.

  27. Don’t worry, sun is about to set on the shitty empire. It’s already a junkyard navy. Most of your industry is owned by indians.
