I understand it's for counting traffic volume, but I wondered if anyone knew anything more specific or technical about them? 😂

  1. They count the number of cars traveling down the road. Traffic analysis.

  2. They are pressure activated, they count when both lines are pressed. They can distinguish between direction of vehicles.

    That’s basically all they do

  3. As others say they count vehicles passing. Used for data gathering to inform traffic management decisions and road maintainance/upgrading scheduling

  4. They actually rise upwards if there is a police chase etc and decapitate the fleeing suspects , you’ve been warned

  5. I guess it’s 2 lines so that you can measure speed, rather than just count numbers. I wonder if that also differentiates unicycles and 18 wheelers

  6. I slow down over them, trying to do my bit to not have speed bumps

  7. its excellent to answer yer own question in the preamble
