I’m so sick of the zone 1-4 Rental crap, how did someone write this without cackling like a witch?
A discounted rate? Ideal for a professional that needs to find somewhere else to live for a 1/4 of the month. Even I’m now laughing.

And the search continues.

  1. Where’s the discount? It’d normally be £2k but it’s only available 75% of the time and the charge is £1.5k…

  2. This is horrible but hurts even more that someone will take it. I know flat owners in this situation. They do the more sensible thing and turn the living room into their permanent bedroom and rent the single room out.

This person could do that (provided kitchen access is not through the living room) but they don’t want to lose out on the 1 bedroom rent. It’s a horrible way to “live” for the future tenant.

  3. I guess if you’re on a crazy salary and only need to be in the office 3 weeks in 4?

  4. I wouldn’t say 3 weeks out of 4 is “common”, but some people have set-ups like this in London. The target market is not someone who is looking for a full-time flat, it’s for someone who does one week a month in New York or Paris or Edinburgh or whatever. It’s not that big a deal?

I’m not sure this is the emblem of the terrible exploitative ridiculous London rental market that you’re taking it to be. They’re just looking for someone who has an opposite schedule to them.

  5. It could work for someone in a similar situation to the owner. I.e. based out of town but need to be in a few weeks at a time.

  6. I think for 1.25k it’s okay but 1.5 isn’t really a discount

  7. Rent it out full price full time and let the rent pay for your hotel those few nights a month in London.

  8. wouldnt the tenant be paying the council tax either way?

  9. Likely the owner has been asked to work in a different office 1 week every month. This arrangement may likely also work well for someone who is in a similar boat and needs to be in London part time, and doesn’t want to be booking Airbnbs or hotels

  10. Ffs, either rent it out or dont.
They could afford an entire flat but cant afford a hotel 5 days a month? 🤣

  11. you pay £1500 a month and every few weeks you get kicked out of it? jesus christ i could rent almost three of my current flat at that price and live in all of them all the time without a single monthly eviction

  12. Does the landlord come and sleep in that person’s bed for that week? If so it’s outrageous to even rent it out.

If not, this might be a deal if it was £800 or less and you could stay at your parents or partners house for a week but the inconvenience is not worth £1500

Why can’t this person just rent it out and stay in a hotel/air bnb when they come to London?

  13. If they offered it for like £1000-1200, and you have it on paper guaranteed for at least 3 weeks of every 4, *and* you have family in London you can stay with (like at home) for the other week, I could see this being a very niche deal, but a good one.

But the fact he’s offering it at full price is a pisstake for that level of inconvenience 😆
