  1. [From Bloomberg Opinion columnist Hal Brands: ](https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/features/2025-03-31/us-is-losing-the-contest-to-divide-the-world-to-russia-china?srnd=undefined)

*Trump seems game to divide the world into spheres of influence.*

*The fundamental problem is that this model rests on lousy assumptions about great-power behavior.*

*If Putin and Xi were modest men, with middling ambitions, they might be satisfied with security buffers along their borders.*

*But splitting the globe into spheres of influence with China and Russia is more likely to lead to war than peace.*

  2. It’s not like it hasn’t been tried before. Splitting the world into factions of influence is how we got the First World War.

  3. If you listen carefully to what [Alexander Dugin](https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/30/world/video/gps0330-putin-russia-ukraine-dugin) had to say about this you’d know that ‘peace’ is not the plan.

He quite clearly indicated that sovereignty is to be measured by a nations ability to defend it.
Putin, Xi, and Trump would like to surround Europe (which in their minds also includes Greenland and Canada) and carve up the resources of the world based on who is strong enough to take them.

He mentioned the concept of ‘Cultural Cohesion’ which goes to the Americans that do not yet realize why J.D. Vance has been charged with assuring right-think at the Smithsonian or the DEI scrubbing that is happening. More of the Federal government aligning cultural affairs with the president’s agenda will be coming (to a town near you.)

  4. The US isn’t just losing, it is outright *throwing* hegemony away. Exorbitant abundance just became too inconvenient I guess. MAGA has no idea how bad they shit the bed.
