The politician, who heads the coalition government, noted that while Greenland remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark, it is important to build cooperation and strengthen partnerships.

We are currently in the Kingdom of Denmark, and while we are in this structure, we need to build our relationship and our partnership to strengthen it until the day we can be a sovereign state.

– Nielsen said.

The issue of Greenland’s independence has taken on new significance following statements by the United States about its strategic interests in the region. Nielsen stressed that Greenland is interested in cooperating with Washington in the areas of trade and security, but excludes the possibility of integration with the United States.

Greenland will never be part of America… We want to trade. We certainly want a strong national security partnership, but we want it through mutual respect. We will never be sold and we will never be Americans.

– emphasized the Prime Minister.

Discussions about the future of Greenland have intensified after criticism from US Vice President J. D. Vance, who said that Denmark does not take sufficient care of the island’s security. During a visit to the American military base in northern Greenland, he expressed the opinion that the United States is able to provide more reliable protection for this territory.

In response, Nielsen noted that Greenland, together with its partners, will work to address security issues, stressing that their partnership with Denmark will continue until Greenland can become an independent state.
