Hey everyone,
So I was kind of expecting a speeding fine from a trip to Spain last year — I might’ve gone a bit over the limit in August 2024. But I just received this letter now (in April 2025), and it looks super shady.
It mentions a speed of 126 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in Palamós and asks me to pay €50 on a website: https://sct.myfines.eu. The domain seems suspicious and not at all official (not a .gov.es or similar), and the letter itself looks very unprofessional.
Has anyone dealt with something similar? How can I verify if this is a legit fine or just a scam?
Would appreciate any advice or shared experiences!

It’s legit, you can verify following the instructions from the Generalitat: https://transit.gencat.cat/web/.content/documents/gestions/multes-sancions/estrangers/d-manual-estrangers-eng.pdf
“The person in charge of Servei Territorial de Trànsit of Girona” must be a dead giveaway.
It’s legit.
The payment website is the same it appears on this pdf, that’s on the website of the regional government:
https://transit.gencat.cat/web/.content/documents/gestions/multes-sancions/estrangers/d-manual-estrangers-eng.pdf
The web is not a .gob.es because it is so common for Europeans to go to another European country, commit an infraction there and then go back to their country that an EU-wide platform for traffic infraction management was made. This is why they host this in a .eu website. I agree that the web may not be the most flashy thing ever, but what looks “unprofessional” about the letter to you? Almost all legal letters in Spain look like this.
Seriously seeking help here, should i pay?
Were you there at that time? Are all those facts correct? Did they send you a photo or other proof of the offence? If so, it’s fairly clear that it’s legit. As for the dodgy payment website, it may also be the official way these things are handled. You can make sure by contacting SCT – not through the info in that letter, but after careful googling! – and having them tell you the website of the service they use. Maybe give them the file number for confirmation if they actually answer.
you could check if the phone number at the bottom is from “Servei Català de Transit” and if it is, call and ask about this ticket
Legit. Fines to European foreigners are outsourced to a private company.
It’d be a hell of a scam to have the exact details of the incident.
No that’s real alright. Probably a speed camera on the highway like they have all over Spain
Coming from the U.S.- €100 fine for speeding is NOTHING. We pay €300, €400, €500- and up
Pay it and stop speeding
It’s legit, it uses a different website rather than [gob.es](http://gob.es) or [gencat.cat](http://gencat.cat), since you’re not a resident here.
You **might** be able to get more information about your speeding ticket it here too.

It seems legit to me, but I’d check the qr. It should help you in determining if it’s real or not
Edit: you up guys need to understand what a subdomain is: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdomain
stc.myfines.eu is a subdomain of http://www.myfines.eu, hence the owner of http://www.myfines.eu also owns stc.myfines.eu
This is why people get scammed, because you don’t understand this basic stuff.
********************
It’s a scam.
Evidence 1
The .gob.es domain is bullshit as this is not the approach in most of Europe except maybe the UK.
Catalonia tends to use .cat and this one does not. In particular, Catalan services use the main domain gencat.com
Evidence 2
Open myfines.eu and you will get a blank page
Search the whois for this page and you will find an Italian company.
https://whois.eurid.eu/en/search/?domain=Myfines
Multiservizi Srl the company that bought the domain is a cleaning service.
Searching for that company gives you results like this one:
https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187895-i68-k13985525-o10-Traffic_fine_from_company_call_SP21_S_p_A-Florence_Tuscany.html
Evidence 3:
Searching for Servei Català de Transit in search Startpage (fuck you Google):
https://www.startpage.com/do/search?q=servei+catala+transit&segment=startpage.vivaldi
The first result looks legit:
https://transit.gencat.cat/ca/inici/
Following their website, the page for paying fines is:
https://multestransit.gencat.cat/sctPagaments/AppJava/views/expedients/cerca.xhtml?set-locale=en_GB
Here is the contact page:
https://transit.gencat.cat/ca/canales-cabecera/contacte/
Phone number is also different.
What is next:
Reach out the official Catalan service and get info about your “fine”.
Reach out Europol / Spanish police and denounce the scam: https://denuncias.policia.es/OVD/
You expected a fine, yet you are weirded out by it when you receive the fine???
Real.
It’s legit, but what a bunch of assholes…
You were probably passing another vehicle during a section. But even if you were the only car in the road at the time, they’re treating this as a fault. Even if the limit was 100 and you were speeding at 100.5, they’ll catch you.
Catalan’s Traffic Dept. is the worse:
* They’re totally political biased.
* Regurarly come out with new norms that are in opposition with the rest of the country.
* They overrule standards whenever they feel like.
* Place fake camera stations at random places.
* Illogical speed limits at sections that don’t represent a danger.
* They won’t even admit when they’re wrong and act with cockery.
Look at YT for some people warning about their bad praxis…
Mixed reviews, but i just paid the fine. Thank you for all the help guys. Not sure why my post got downvoted so much, i was just seeking help. 🙂
you were “kind of expecting a speeding fine” from your Spain trip last year, and what do you know, there it is!
