You can avoid planes in Europe and meet your friends by train.

All the websites where you can search for trains are designed for individual travelers. This one is for groups.

Multiple friends from different cities, want to meet in one place. This app will find that place, which is reachable by a direct train.

The app works for all of Europe.

It's fun to use: www.surfoffice.com/trains

  1. Cool idea. I’m looking forward to trying it out for my next trip planning. Two minor issues I noticed:

    – currently there’s no train between Groningen and Hamburg. There used to be, but the line is currently out of commission.

    – from Leipzig, it shows one train connection to “Dresden (Czech Republic)”. I’m sure the Czechs would be happy to get Drežďany back, but it hasn’t quite happened.

  2. Cool thanks! I like it a lot. What is the color coding? Also I think you might have missed some connections. E.g. from Zurich there are direct trains to Hamburg, Genova and Venice

  3. There is no regional train, so I cant plan a trip with friends of the same nationality that dont live in big citys

  4. Where do you get your data from ? I’v tried with Geneva and it shows a direct train to Turin, but I’m a 100 % sure that that line does not exist. Also the direct ICE from Bern to Berlin, that also doesn’t show.
Apart from that, great tool !

  5. Very cool, only problem is I don’t have any friends LOL

  6. I love the idea, but with your selection of UK towns, why Brighton and not some larger conurbations?

  7. Great resource, really nice and intuitive. Small suggestion/correction: Thalys was bought out by Eurostar a bit ago, so now the Amsterdam-Brussels-Paris line is run by Eurostar. I also think the Amsterdam-Lille-London line doesn’t run anymore, last time I heard it only runs out of Rotterdam now. I could be wrong about that though, happy to be corrected.

  8. Mine just said come to my city 😂

I told my friends I’m ok with this.

  9. What is the algorithm you used? Would love to do it for the city tram/metro network in Prague to be used for me And my friends.

I can easily obtain the data, just need the way what to look for

  10. Cool tool!

From Lausanne there are direct trains to Milan and Venice that aren’t shown here.

Pretty sure there are also direct trains from Zurich to Milan

  11. I think you’ve missed the ÖBB nightjets–there’s a direct (overnight) train from Amsterdam to Innsbruck and another to Vienna–including a stop in Munich. Makes the example case have a few more solutions.

(I’d assume the rest of the Nightjet network is missing. You’re also missing the European Sleeper, which runs Brussels/Amsteredam/Berlin/Prague.)

  12. This seems to prefer to weight by distance, but time seems to be a pretty big factor, e.g. for London and Barcelona, Lyon is closer to mid-point, but it’s 5th on the list, behind Paris, London, and Barcelona.

It might be nice to have a way to go back to the other options list after selecting a route, without having to go back to “Find Best Location” again.
