Lithuania and Estonia have been denied EU funding for their proposed “drone wall” project, which would involve the use of drones to monitor the border and deploy counter-drone systems. This was reported by LRT, citing the Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior, reports UNN.
Estonian and Lithuanian border guards submitted a joint application for EU funding to develop a so-called “drone wall” along the border, but the project did not receive funding.
– the ministry said.
It is noted that Estonia was the main applicant and Lithuania was a partner. The Lithuanian Border Guard Service said that Brussels rejected the funding application in early March.
The “drone wall” project would involve the use of drones to monitor the border and deploy counter-drone systems.
Rustamas Liubajevas, Head of the State Border Guard Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, said that the country will look for other sources of funding.
I don’t see a big problem in the fact that the project was not selected for funding. I believe that we can find other sources to finance this project. The project may be more focused on regional cooperation, the creation of a regional system
– said Liubajevas.
He stressed that the “drone wall” project is primarily designed to facilitate the exchange of information between countries.
This is a system that will primarily allow for the exchange of information, the detection and neutralization of drones. It was also planned to select specific border areas in each country for pilot projects
– added Liubajevas. Let us remind you
The Netherlands are accelerating support for Ukraine by EUR 2 billion, of which EUR 500 million will go to the purchase of drones. This will help Ukraine to more effectively resist Russian attacks.
