Luxembourg customs officers have seized more than a tonne of hashish and marijuana after stopping a truck driver last week, the customs and excise agency said on Monday.

Customs officers uncovered 1,065 kilograms of hashish and 126 kilograms of marijuana in the vehicle during a roadside inspection, the agency said.

The 35-year-old driver was arrested and the investigation remains ongoing, the agency added.

It is the latest seizure of a significant quantity of drugs in Luxembourg in recent months.

In February, customs officials found 508 kilograms of cocaine hidden in an air freight shipment at Luxembourg airport’s cargo centre.

Earlier in February, Luxembourg authorities uncovered their largest ever drugs haul, when officials found 889 kilograms of cocaine – with an estimated worth of €160 million – in three rollers of a stone crushing machine in northern Luxembourg.

The officials had received a tip-off that large quantities of cocaine had been delivered to Luxembourg from Colombia in a construction site vehicle.
