“We are talking to Russia. We would like them to stop. I don’t like the bombing. The bombing goes on and on. Every week people, thousands of young people are being killed,” Trump said.

The US president reiterated his usual line, saying that the Russo-Ukrainian war “would have never started if I were a president, 100%”.

Quote from Peskov: “President Putin indeed supports the idea of a ceasefire, but before that, a number of questions need to be answered. These questions are hanging in the air, and so far, no one has provided any answers.” [N.B. Ukrainska Pravda does not recognise Putin as president – ed.]

Details: This was Peskov’s response to Trump’s comments, in which he expressed dissatisfaction with Russia’s strikes on Ukraine and stressed that they must stop.

Peskov reiterated the Kremlin’s usual narrative about the mythical “denazification and demilitarisation” of Ukraine. He said that the questions requiring answers are linked to “the lack of control of the Kyiv regime and the inability of the Kyiv regime to control the actions of a number of extremist nationalist units that simply do not obey Kyiv”.

Quote from Peskov: “This is also connected to Kyiv’s continued plans for militarisation and so on. Therefore, all these aspects remain on the agenda. And while we share the idea that a ceasefire must happen as soon as possible, we must ensure our interests and clarify the issues I have mentioned.”

Background:

On the evening of 4 April, Russian troops launched a ballistic missile strike on a residential area of Kryvyi Rih, killing 20 people, including nine children. Over 60 others were injured. As of the morning of 7 April, 33 residents of Kryvyi Rih who were injured in the Russian ballistic missile attack on the city on 4 April remain in hospitals. A total of 18 adults and two children are in a serious condition.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticised the world’s insufficient response to Russian strikes. “The number of air attacks is increasing. This is how Russia reveals its true intentions – to continue the terror for as long as the world allows it,” he emphasised.
French President Emmanuel Macron called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and stated that by launching constant strikes, Russia is mocking proposals for peace talks.
