Jessika Roswall, Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy will deliver a keynote at the event “Sustainability and Democracy – The Role of Research for Navigating in an Era of Climate Change and Geopolitical Instability”. Anna Jöborn, CEO of Mistra will hold a presentation on the role of research in turbulent times.

Opportunities and risks for Europe

Björn-Ola Linnér, Programme Director for Mistra Geopolitics and professor at Linköping University will present on the topic climate and geopolitical trade disruption – opportunities and risks for Europe. André Månberger, research lead in Mistra Geopolitics and Associate Professor at Lund University will talk about how we can make the climate transformation possible and how Europe can reach a fossil-free future.

A discussion will be moderated by Maria Wetterstrand and feature a panel of experts sharing valuable insights on key questions, such as:

Climate and geopolitical trade disruption – opportunities and risks for Europe.
Current status of the EU Green Deal – challenges and possibilities.
How can we make the climate transition possible? How can Europe secure energy and resources for food security and a fossil-free future?

Shaping a sustainable and competitive Europe

The event will gather around 50 decision-makers, researchers, and industry representatives to highlight the critical role of research and innovation in shaping a sustainable and competitive Europe focused on the circular economy.

This event will also present Mistra’s impactful projects – where Mistra Geopolitics is one of those programmes being the single largest programme focusing entirely on the interactions between geopolitics, security and climate change.

The discussions during this event will also serve as a platform to exchange ideas on policy, research and innovation in shaping a sustainable and competitive Europe focused on circular economy.
