France Wall Clocks Imports

In 2024, wall clocks imports into France amounted to 8.2M units, with an increase of 8.6% compared with the previous year’s figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 12M units. From 2017 to 2024, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wall clocks imports surged to $61M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. In 2023, China (5.1M units) constituted the largest supplier of wall clocks to France, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, wall clocks imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (797K units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Belgium (649K units), with an 8.6% share.

From 2014 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to -6.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+28.1% per year) and Belgium (+24.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($21M) constituted the largest supplier of wall clocks to France, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($6.9M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 12% share.

From 2014 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+18.7% per year) and Belgium (+30.7% per year).

In 2024, clocks, other than watches, wall clocks and instrument panel clocks (7.9M units) was the main type of wall clocks supplied to France, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, clocks, other than watches, wall clocks and instrument panel clocks exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, clocks; with watch movements, excluding clocks of heading no. 9104 (376K units), more than tenfold.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the volume of clocks, other than watches, wall clocks and instrument panel clocks imports totaled -1.7%.

In value terms, clocks, other than watches, wall clocks and instrument panel clocks ($56M) constituted the largest type of wall clocks supplied to France, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by clocks; with watch movements, excluding clocks of heading no. 9104 ($4.8M), with an 8% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the wall clocks price amounted to $6.8 per unit (CIF, France), dropping by -16.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $8.1 per unit in 2022, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($14 per unit), while the price for China ($4.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
