  1. This looks what used to be the IT block at the very back if I am not mistaken? Was it block 16 or something?

  2. Some great years were had there.. Fuck this takes me back lol

  3. I’m sure you’re aware, but abandoned and empty aren’t the same thing. They’re still actively using parts of it too. Must be costing a fair bit to keep it lit and heated

  4. This is mental. What a waste of resources to keep the lights etc on

  5. Punching me right in the nostalgia. Spent a lot of late nights in the IT block here.

  6. I remember getting blocked at the bar and playing pool there between lectures. Good times.

  7. Anyone know if there’s plans for the unused parts of the university?

  8. I remember the sandwich bar in the union was epic. Wee packed sub roll for lunch every day.

  10. I was doing my mock maths o-level in the school next door when the ira detonated a bomb in the ceiling of one of the university classrooms in an attempt to kill a couple of ruc officers who were taking a course. Give our windows a good rattling.

  11. Reminds me of glory days of shagging a lot of randoms and sitting around the mall smoking with mates (late 90s grad obviously). The union was always good fun too. Food was terrible though.

  12. Oh these photos remind me of the former South Building at the UUC, which ceased being used in around 2015 and then was demolished a year or two after.

There was a point in time when the departments had moved into the U and I blocks, but the South Building was still accessible, and it felt like an abandoned building. Very eerie.

I’d fully expect half of UUJ to be demolished, though I’d wonder what they’d do to the land left vacant – student housing away from Belfast? I don’t remember if there’s still a direct bus connection between UUJ and UUB.
