There’s a totem showing ads in my GP’s waiting room. And for some reason there’s an ad for a restaurant in Gibraltar in it

  3. What’s the place called? I live in Gibraltar and I’ve never seen this add or know of a place that has a restaurant, show and party!

  6. What’s even more confusing is you’d think Gibraltar would be a popular holiday destination for Brits, as it’s basically just like the UK with better weather. Yet I’ve never known anyone to say they’re going there.

    I asked about this once on Reddit and the resounding answer from people who have been is “because it’s shit”.

  9. My GP used it have one ad in its website before it switched to the standard NHS website format. It was for a funeral director.

  10. The wealthy pensioners who spend 3 or 4 days a month clogging up my local GP surgery over every minor complaint probably are the target demographic for a shit restaurant in Gibraltar/Southern Spain tbf.

  15. The whole country is just run as a business now. Councils, GPs, central govt departments.

    It’s no longer about providing services, but extracting as much money as possible from Joe Public.

    Surprised they not showing adverts for tobacco. You know it’s only a matter of time.

    If adverts mean I get to see a GP in a timely fashion though, I’ll take it.

  18. I enjoy them being described as ‘totems’. I’ve never heard them called that before, but it fits, and I hope it catches on.

    Would it be right to call the self service machines in McDonalds totems, or is it more for display only screens?

  19. Couple years back we had a bit of a problem with stickers being put up all over town featuring particularly nasty alt-right propaganda. I made it a bit of a mission to routinely walk around town and take down as many of them as I could find, and while doing so I kept running into the same sticker absolutely everywhere. Literally dozens along every street. Advertising a nightclub in the Netherlands. We’re in Devon. I still see one occasionally and it always fills me with questions. Why did the person responsible for the stickers decide to put them up here? How much did it cost them? Did anyone here see them and decide to go?
