Centuries old majestic wood carvings, epic orchestras, KKK costumes, biblical condemned idol worship… it’s an absolute experience.

  1. I was in Sevilla on Sunday.

I knew it was happening but then I was still surprised by the scale of it.

  2. Time to play nothing but Blasphemous for a week. Based hermanos.

  3. I’m over there and honnestly it’s very interesting. Loving it.

  4. Happened to me a few years ago, when i was back packing in Spain and i was about to hitch hike to a festival in Portugal.
Got stuck in Malaga, without knowing it was semana santa and here i was, with a giant clunky back pack between droves of people and colourful KKKs. Was not a fun experience, but an experience non the less.

  5. I just wanted to spend a nice week here in Malaga and now I’m navigating through crowds cheering to the KKK that gridlock all streets around my hotel.

/s for all those that are new to this sub

  6. No no OP, the KKK wear Easter outfits. We ain’t copying them. We invented that fit.

  7. The fact that some foreigners don’t know yet about Semana Santa is mindblowing to me

  8. Of course a German would think venerating Christ and honoring saints that spent their whole lives venerating Christ is idol worship.

  9. The gif is missing the best bit with the ceremonial robes.

  10. Meanwhile, in South America: ‘cousin Nino’s local Christ statue is only 15m high, make sure ours is double that!’

  11. Most normal Catholic country

…and yes, I’m aware my country is possibly the most Catholic one (aside maybe from the Vatican, but if we consider that there’s no real distinction bewteen the two, that’s not an issue ig).

  12. On Twitter, MAGA bots are already circulating with the phrase “Spain proves that it is Christian” and also the classic ones like “God doesn’t like this” or “They have the KKK in Spain” and a new one “This is slavery.” I’m just enjoying the memes and other things like every year.

  13. Ignore the haters PIGS bros and keep the traditions, these are what make us unique.

  14. American non-dom/baptists tourists probably love complaining about the beauty and symbolism of traditional Spanish catholic customs.

Or they would if they weren’t panic buying rice and iphones.
