DENMARK, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – A new chapter in leadership began this week in the city of Denmark as Harold Johnson was officially sworn in as mayor during a ceremony held at Denmark-Olar Middle School.
The event on Tuesday drew a crowd of community members, family and supporters, along with local and county leaders.
In addition to Johnson’s installation, the city also welcomed newly elected Councilman Chris Murray and celebrated the re-election of Councilwoman Rosa James and Mayor Pro-Tem Jake Bookard.

The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by outgoing Mayor Gerald E. Wright, who offered congratulations and reflections on his time in office.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Denmark,” he said. “I’m confident that Mayor Johnson will continue the work of uplifting our community and will serve with integrity, vision, and deep compassion.”
Johnson began his remarks by expressing his gratitude to the citizens of Denmark for their support and confidence in his leadership.

“I am humbled by the trust you’ve placed in me,” he said. “My promise is to lead with transparency and commitment, ensuring every citizen feels heard, respected, and empowered. Together, we will build a Denmark that thrives for all.”
