Former Croatian footballer Nikola Pokrivač, 39, has died in a traffic accident that occurred on Friday night in the city of Karlovac in Croatia.
In addition to Pokrivac, another person died, while three others were injured. The accident occurred at around 20:15 on the Turanj bypass and involved four vehicles.
Karlovac police confirmed the accident and said the injured have been taken for medical treatment, while the road remains closed to traffic. Investigations are ongoing.
Nikola Pokrivač was a familiar name to Croatian football fans. He made 15 appearances for the Croatian national team, and was part of Slaven Bilić’s squad at Euro 2008. He started his career at Varteks, and later played for well-known clubs such as Dinamo Zagreb, Monaco, Red Bull Salzburg and Rijeka.
Last year, he signed for Croatian club NK Vojnić ’95 in the card category, where he was also ending his career in active football.
