SAN ANTONIO — Dozens of residents gathered Saturday morning to express their concerns over federal funding during a town hall meeting hosted by Congressman Greg Casar.

The San Antonio Democrat addressed issues such as funding for Medicaid and Social Security, as well as Elon Musk’s involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE.

DOGE was established to eliminate wasteful government spending. However, the department has laid off thousands of workers and cut significant funding, which Casar said would have supported people in need in San Antonio.

Casar highlighted the impact of these cuts, stating, “Grant dollars to go to disability services here in the community. Grant dollars to help renovate VFW posts. Grant dollars to help support veterans programs and affordable housing and mental health programs. Much of that was destroyed by this house republican majority in the congress. And so that isn’t right. We’re working with our local governments to try of pick up the slack and do what we can.”

Casar announced he will continue to host town halls regularly to answer questions and keep the community informed about developments on Capitol Hill.
