On the sidelines of the 4th Summit of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Forum, held on April 16 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, Danish State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Lina Hansen met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son to advance bilateral cooperation in green growth and sustainability.
This marks Ms. Hansen’s third visit to Vietnam, accompanied by representatives from leading Danish corporations such as CIP, Pandora, Carlsberg, and Maersk underscoring Denmark’s commitment to green investment and global climate leadership.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed appreciation for Denmark’s strong support in helping Vietnam successfully host the P4G Summit, which has further cemented Vietnam’s position as an active contributor to global sustainable development goals. He reiterated Vietnam’s high regard for its partnership with Denmark, highlighting key frameworks established in recent years including the Green Strategic Partnership (2023), the Comprehensive Partnership (2013), and the Strategic Partnership in Climate Change, Energy, and Green Growth (2011).
Vietnam called for enhanced Danish cooperation in institutional reform, policy development, technology transfer, and human resource training. As a developing country committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Vietnam emphasized its need for greater political, financial, and technological support from the P4G community, including Denmark, to realize its commitments under the COP26 framework.
Deputy Prime Minister Son also urged Denmark to support the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) by EU member states and advocate for the removal of the EU’s IUU “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood exports. He encouraged more Danish businesses to explore investment opportunities in Vietnam and the broader ASEAN market, especially in areas where Denmark excels and Vietnam prioritizes such as renewable energy, green infrastructure, marine economy, and circular economy models.
State Secretary Lina Hansen affirmed Denmark’s dedication to deepening its relationship with Vietnam, noting the many opportunities ahead as Denmark assumes the rotating EU Presidency in July 2025. She endorsed Vietnam’s sustainable development efforts and highlighted the country as a leading green investment destination in the region.
Ms. Hansen agreed with Deputy PM Son’s proposals for expanded collaboration across diplomacy, trade, and sectoral cooperation, including in healthcare, agriculture, food safety, education, statistics, and emerging fields like science, technology, digital transformation, and marine energy.
Danish companies present at the meeting expressed confidence in Vietnam’s investment environment and voiced their readiness to expand operations. Deputy PM Son assured that Vietnam welcomes and facilitates international businesses including those from Denmark to operate and grow sustainably in the country.
