China appoints new trade negotiator amid tariff war with US • FRANCE 24 English

Emboldened by the latest economic data that showed China’s economy grew faster than expected in the first quarter at 5.4 percent, Beijing continues to play hardball in its trade war with the United States. But it has also quietly appointed a new trade negotiator, who has experience at the WTO. Meanwhile, Trump said he’d take part in trade talks with Japan as its delegation headed for Washington. Plus, turmoil returned to Wall Street as the Federal Reserve chairman warned about the inflationary impacts of tariffs.

  1. If America want's to weigh less then just close it's mouth. America is the kind which says "I want to lose weight" but you can't hear over the chewing.

  2. The U.S. has lived well for many years thanks to a comfortable negative trade balance, non-payment of foreign taxes, extreme debt, and shifting production to cheap foreign countries with no investment at home and high profit absorption. Now Trump wants to change that. He just doesn't understand that it's the citizens of the U.S. and the local industry that have to pay for this isolationist balance, not the other countries.

  3. U.S. is not blackmailing. We want our own products from our own people, with jobs that support people in our own communities. China has slowly lowered the quality of exports products while simultaneously stealing and sabotaging American industry. France wouldn't stand for this and neither will the U.S. After unleashing a global pandemic, they are trying to present themselves as a stable reliable partner? They must be joking.

  4. If China’s new trade negotiator doesn’t come up with a deal that is mutually beneficial to both the United States and China, it won’t be accepted. At least for the next four years, the United States is done with being the world’s sugar daddy and we’re definitely done propping up the CCP’s economy, putting up with IP theft, and funding their military. Get used to it.

  5. Even though China exports products to the United States for over $400 annually, those products are being made with little profits by the Chinese. The calculation is very misled.

  6. China would like to work together with the US to make the World a better place for all . Beating the US in a Trade War is

not in the Action List of China . When Trump reduce the tariff, China will reduce the tariff as well automatically !

France should diversify their trades with other countries instead of relying on the US and get bullied.

  7. Psst, #FiguresWereCooked. While China's official GDP growth figures is impressive, analysts (like Yale SOM's Frank Zhang) argue they may not accurately reflect the true state of the economy. . .the lack of transparency in China's data collection process & limited access to independent data sources fuels suspicion about the accuracy of official figures. Additionally, the Rhodium Group, a research firm suggests that the official growth has been overstated by 3% points annually, leading to a potential overestimation of the overall economy's size

    That said, #ImpeachTrump !!
