What is it with businesses trying to argue with reviewers.

Is this the result of the “everyone’s a winner” generation?

Just accept it and move on

  1. It’s fine for a business to have a right of reply.

  2. Sounds like op is trolling google reviews to find something to post about.

  3. Eugh, I sympathise. Particularly with cars.

People can negatively review with almost zero responsibility for their words. By the sounds of it, this guys a clown and the car dealer wants to defend their position.

That said, a conversation would be better than sharing.

  4. If his car retails at £1,000 why the fuck did he offer him £1,200 in the first place, and even counter with a higher offer, cause he wanted to make a deal work?

Doesn’t really support his claim of “we wouldn’t want to retail your £1000 car anyway”.

  5. The owner is a sarcastic prick regardless of the initial reply. Funny enough I was looking at a jeep from from this car sales and I think I won’t bother now 😆

  6. A lot of business owners here have a big ego from everyone blowing smoke up their arse even when the service is shit, therefor they can never seem to take any form of critisim.

  7. I’d say this would be fine if they didn’t decide to add:

    > Trust me we, we wouldn’t risk retailing your £1000 car anyway

It’s fine to reply to reviews and justify your business but there’s no need to make a rude comment like this. Especially when they upped their offer to £1200

  8. Every business owner has the right to reply but in my view when their reply isn’t professional it says a lot.

  9. Nah, this isn’t a terrible reply. If you want a laugh check out the Kracken reviews on Google maps up in Portrush.

  10. There’s some oil place from here that gets a kick out of sharing customer texts on their Facebook page and slabbering about them. He could be right but he also comes across as a massive self righteous bellend.

  11. What’s wrong with it? It’s actually pretty funny! This whole “there’s a way to go about it” idea comes from the Yanks belief that the customer is always right shite. It’s their business and they can reply how they want. If you put enough effort into opening your own business to contribute to the community by providing jobs and to provide for yourself and your family and some Eejit gives a bad review because they’re offended that their car isn’t worth it, I’d be writing the exact same thing.

  12. The business owner isn’t wrong here, but clapping back isn’t a good look

  13. What type of car was it ? They said they cant go off the usedcarni prices but this is what these cars are worth. No matter what work they put into it, they cant really put that value ontop of what they’re selling it at. The customer can clearly go anywhere else and buy the car at the value everyone else is selling it at. If the dealership is buying in shitty cars then they’re gonna be out money fixing them. He sounds like hes trading in cars to get deals on and leaving himself in a worse position. Just access the car properly and give the trade in price that its worth.

  14. I actually think the business owner had a reasonably appropriate response. This reviewer was leaving a review based on trade in value and just because he didn’t get what ‘he’ wanted he left a 1 star review. The initial review was inappropriate in my view.

Reviews affect businesses and the customer was trying to use that to leverage advantage and just because he didn’t get what he wanted he threw his toys out.

I do think the business could have been a little more professional in his reply though

  15. This guy has no idea how the Pokémon card market works.

  16. If a business is offering trade-ins you can get a new vehicle and dispose of the old one. It’s a handy deal. No comebacks for you if the exhaust falls off as the buyer drives home.

You will almost always be able to get more for your car by selling it privately. But you will have to pay for an advert and then deal with the people who come to buy it and some will literally be tyre kickers. Then you’ll have calls from other car selling publications wanting you to use their publication. You’ll have to put up with people haggling. If something happens the car they’ll be back looking a refund or more money off. It’s a bit stressful. Will they give you dodgy notes or a fake bank transfer?

I know some dealerships will take your car off you and sell it on to someone else in the trade who specialises in cheaper cars. Your banger won’t fit the image of the cars they want to be seen selling. If it is a decent car they’ll want to valet it and do whatever other prep work and it may take weeks or months to sell. They need to make a profit.

This is the way all car dealerships work. The review doesn’t really help. What car was the reviewer trying to sell? What condition was it in?

He felt entitled to more money from the dealer, but he had the option to sell himself or to ‘We Buy Any Car’.

  17. As an ex car dealer, they’re kinda right, in that if the car is £3k asking on UsedCarsNI, it’s about a grand as a part exchange, especially when considering faults that might need fixed, damage that needs repair, warranty to be provided, profit that is needed to keep the doors open, and paying the marginal tax rate to the government.

They could’ve worded it better, and saying they wouldn’t retail it sounds shitty (but is true). They probably should have asked a few friends for their opinion on the wording.

Edit – didn’t know they were hawking it around groups. Yeah, they must be wankers TBF. I was more saying about the value of the car and likelihood of it being retailed meaning the initial 1 star review probably wasn’t warranted.

  18. “What is it with businesses trying to argue with reviewers” That’s a ridiculous statement for a start. I worked in the family business for just over 8 years and I can say this with 100% confidence that the majority of the general public are absolute fucking idiots. So if some clown wants to leave a bad review slating your business you should just take it on the chin?

There’s a weird phenomenon on this sub where everyone thinks that if you own a business you must be rolling in money and therefore you are some shady character must be ripping everyone off and should be tarred and feathered and strung up with piano wire. 🙄

Owning and running a small business is fucking hard and it’s fucking stressfull. So when some eejit comes along and leaves a one star review it’s very very disheartening and you take it personally. Then to find out the review is either completely made up or completely wrong of course you are gonna respond to try and state your case. Sometimes the replies to the reviews will sound a bit sharp because it’s so personal and your adrenaline literally is flying

Plus the whole 5 star review system is complete and utter bullshit anyway. In those 8 years I worked in the business we got hundreds of reviews mostly positive thankfully but never once did we get a review of 2,3,4 stars. It’s either 5 stars or 1 star. And 9 times out of 10 we got a one star for some stupid reason that we had absolutely no control over either such as Royal Mail delivering to the wrong address etc etc

Fuck that ended up a rant 🙈

  19. TripAdvisor Art bar funkel negative reviews replys from the proprietor are popcorn gold

  20. Trade in value for a new car allows for more flexibility from the dealer.

This is an oversimplification, and we’ll forget the dealers costs as they don’t change here, but:

If a new car retails at £12,000 it is £10k plus £2k VAT. The dealer keeps £10k

If the trade in price is £1,000, the car can be sold for £11,000. This is £9,167 plus £1,833. The dealer keeps £9,167. If they get their £1,000 back, so have now £10,167 for the new car

If the trade in price is £1,200, the car can be sold for £10,800. This is £9,000 plus £1,800 VAT. If the dealer gets £1,000 he’s happy etc.

There’s a lot more to this, but it should demonstrate that dealer’s offer more for trade ins as it should cover whatever they drop their ticket price by.

  21. I once left a bad review for CPS and they had the audacity to ring me about it afterwards and say how sad they were

  22. Another NI business owner with Main Character Syndrome

  23. A business told us that they wouldn’t be refunding us (after they delivered a damaged item) because I left a bad Google review..

  24. The business is right, they upped the offer to get a sale, 99.9% of dealers that get a trade in simply ship it up to mulusk or portadown a few it’s carryduff auction. They won’t retail anything over a certain mileage or age, the warranty costs would totally destroy any profits. Most people don’t understand the slim margins dealers are working on. Nor the cost and taxes involved eg vat is worked out eg on the difference between buying and selling price. So a car bought or traded in say at £3k requiring £1000 of work and sold for £5 k vat alone is £400. Then you’ve running costs the mechanic wages the sales man wages the bank costs the lease on the pitch the other additional costs . A £2 k profit on paper suddenly turns into a few hundreds. And no I’m not a dealer or have any interests in jk cars just know the facts and that’s before you consider they have to offer a warranty by law so those lovely bmw that grenade their engines could be a costly issue or audi’s that eat dpf’s for breakfast at £500 a, touch, yes a fantastic business to be in

  25. “Hi, Mr D. Thanks for the feedback.

Our pricing is inclusive of additional services that aren’t typically found with digital retailers. As such, our pricing tends to differ. This also benefits the customer as it ensures peace of mind knowing that what you’re purchasing is of good quality and reliable service.”

All he had to fucking say.

  26. There used to be a Chinese takeaway somewhere in NI, on Just Eat I think and the owners replies to even slightly negative reviews were legendary.

  27. Sign of a decline in economy when business owners are taking to social media about it

  28. How you going to complain about a business you haven’t completed a transaction with?
