You might remember me posting a few months back asking for good places to bring my French wife, as she's never eaten British before and I wanted to share what makes our food good.

A thousand thanks to you all who gave me some pointers, and especially to the kind person who suggested Aladin in Brick Lane. I loved it! The wife however was killed by a particularly mild madras and has sworn off anything more spicy than a pinch of salt (bless her) … (see attached photo for her gorgeous meal)

  1. Yeah dude you need to start with a korma and work her up to the madras. For a brit that’s a pretty middle of the road curry, but for a novice that’s pretty toasty lol.

  2. Eh I think you might want to try getting your wife to gradually build up her tolerance to more spicy dishes as madras is definitely seen as a more spicy dish.

  3. > mild madras

    Sorry for your divorce, lol

All joking aside, fair play to her for committing to it and going straight for the hot curry!

  4. If your wife is half as good looking as that meal then you’ve done very well. Congratulations on the marriage.

  5. I love Aladin’s, haven’t been in a few years so glad it’s held up!

    Happy honeymoon!

  6. That looks amazing, would demolish that in a heartbeat. Congrats and enjoy!

  7. Swiped left for atatched photo only to find a picture of (pre) pope Francis in a bus in Buenos Aires in the 90’s

  8. Nice one enjoy! Took my wife to Aladins last year, absolutely fantastic food.

  9. When I lived in France I’d always say “make it as spicy as you can” and I’d get something that would barely make my tongue tingle. When I moved to the UK I made the mistake of saying that only once.

The french don’t like spicy. One old geezer once told me “if cuisine doesn’t hold up without spice it’s not worth eating”.

I love France, the french and french cooking for the most part, but every once in a while, they just get something dead wrong.

  10. Christ, I could just go for a good curry right about now. We really are blessed in this country to have such amazing variety available to us.

Congratulations on your marriage. Bigger congratulations on your dinner.

  11. No offence to anyone, but what is this madras? There’s no dish called “Madras” in South India, or anywhere in India for that matter.

  12. I don’t know why they don’t serve this in more pubs. Imagine been about two or three pints in and someone brings over a pickle tray with popadoms. Dreams.

  13. You have chose a romantic meal and still dressed like a ‘just eat gangsta’

  14. Alladins is good! I’m personally a Monsoon man for Brick Lane. Happy Honeymoon!
